About

Sea Shell Communications was set up in 2012 by Cathy Shelbourne, a PR and marketing professional who worked in publishing and television before freelancing for a wide range of clients in the natural and built environment.

As well as consultancy work on tourism and the visitor economy, Sea Shell Communications now manages holiday properties, and works closely with local tourism groups and DMOs (destination management organisations). With designer Laura Hall and photographer Anthony Cullen, Sea Shell Communications has produced visitor guides for the Shotley peninsula in Suffolk, and Harwich in Essex

Cathy is a very experienced public speaker and writer. She won the Toastmasters International Divisional Contest for best evaluator in 2010, and best table topics speaker in 2019, and was a finalist in the first contests to be held online. She also mentors and coaches individuals in presentation skills.

Cathy has combined her experience in public speaking with her interest in maritime history. She is a member of the Yachting Journalistsā€™ Association (YJA), and the Society for Nautical Research (SNR); and is Editor of the Ipswich Maritime Trust (IMT) magazine. Her series of talks on maritime heroes, brazen buccaneers and splendid ships are tailored to local places, national campaigns, and international anniversaries.

Her Monumental Maritime Heroes playing cards feature these heroes and many more, and come in a presentation box with information leaflet and timeline. Order now from the Shop!
